KARACHI:27 March:The Awami Jamhoori Party (AJP) has started a six-day-long protest march for revamping of the educational system of Sindh.
They have a seven-point charter of demands: (1) declaring an education emergency in Sindh, (ii) teaching and non-teaching staff of the universities, colleges and schools should be declared “essential service” and any boycott of the classes should be termed illegal, (3) chancellorship powers of the governor should be taken away from him, and handed over to the elected chief executive of the province, the chief minister, (4) the Sindh education minister immediately removed from his ministry for non-performing and showing criminal negligence in handling the education in the province, (5) units of student political groups must be done away with in universities and colleges, as over the years, they have done more harm to the educational atmosphere than improving it, (6) an urgent change in the admission policy of all public sector universities, especially the Sindh University, where only 10 percent seats may be allocated to self-finance scheme, so that only those students can take admission who are want to study and not indulge in crime at the campus and (7) Rangers should be removed from the campus and a high police official of SSP rank be given the responsibility of maintaining law and order.
The AJP also called upon the people of Sindh to seek assurances from the contesting candidates for the upcoming general elections they must open closed schools in their areas and take efforts for the betterment of education.
The AJP will also start a province-wide long march for highlighting the worsening educational situation of Sindh.
The AJP announced that it is establishing a monitoring cell from April to collect information and data on schools that are closed and identify ghost teachers.
The AJP’s protest march is being led its president Abrar Kazi, Hussain Bux Narejo, Hareef Chandio, Ms Nazeer Qureshi, Karam Wassan and Noor Nabi Rahojo.
Hundreds of marchers will reach the Allama II Kazi’s shrine at Sindh University, Jamshoro on March 30.
